Meeting of EuroVelo National Coordinators at Velo-city
Conference in Seville
The latest National EuroVelo Coordinators Meeting was held on the 23rd
March during the Velo-city Conference in Seville. The meeting was well at-
tended with 31 participants, some of whom had travelled from as far away
as Turkey and Finland. The organisation of the meeting was supported by
the DG ENTR. At the beginning of the meeting Adam Bodorwas introduced
as the new EuroVelo Manager. Each of the national coordinators then gave
a short presentation on current developments in their home country. Fur-
ther updates were given on the EuroVelo Central Coordination Project and
the re-organisation of the National Coordination Centres. The presentations

As a reminder, whilst there is no deadline for the submission of applications
for people or organisations wanting to be National EuroVelo Coordinators,
we will publish the new list based on the emails and applications received by

EuroVelo presentation at Velo-city
The newly-appointed EuroVelo Manager, Adam Bodor, was busy at Velo-city.
He also gave a presentation to the delegates at the conference on EuroVelo.
The presentation focused on the EuroVelo Central Coordination Project
(supported by the DG ENTR), which aims to establish an overarching EuroVe-
lo Strategy and the first EuroVelo overview route database.

Italy
In February, FIAB published the first survey of Italian rail-trails - cycle
routes created on disused railways. FIAB only considered rail-trails
that were longer than 5km and already open to touring bikes. They
found that 775 km of cycle routes had been created In this way, 48%
of which (370 km) now form part of Blcltalla, the Italian national cycle
network. The EuroVelo network has also benefited from this Initiative
with all three EV routes that pass through Italy (EV5, 7 and 8) Inclu-
ding a contribution from rail-trails, totaling over 80 km.

The Netherlands
The Dutch National Cycling Platform (National Foundation Fletsplat-
form) continues to roll out Its successful Fletsers Welkom (Cyclists
Welcome) scheme. Originally established In 2010, Fletsers Welkom
alms to create a national network of bike-friendly hospitality busines-
ses.
The companies are reassessed annually and a sticker will display the
most recent year that they met the standards. More than 400 busi-
nesses have met the Fletsers Welkom standards so far and they are
all shown on the map available to view on the scheme’s official websi-
te: www.allefietserswelkom.nl.

Route Development
The Iron Curtain Trail (EuroVelo 13)
Václav Havel, the famous Czech playwright, essayist, poet, dissident and
politician, has agreed to became a patron of the Iron Curtain Trail (EV13)
in the Czech Republic. Mr Havel was one of the most prominent dissi-
dents who fought the communist regime in Eastern Europe and was a
key figure in the “Velvet Revolution”, the non-violent revolution in Cze-
choslovakia that saw the overthrow of the communist government. He
then became the first president of post-communist Czechoslovakia and
later of the Czech Republic. It is a great honor that Mr Havel has agreed
to become a patron of the Iron Curtain Trail in the Czech Republic and it
reflects the growing importance of this project.
The development of the Iron Curtain Trail (EV13) continues with the in-
ternational consortiums meeting to present the results of their national
reports on the following dates:

The Baltic Sea Cycle Route (EuroVelo 10)
Three EuroVelo routes pass through Finland (EV10,11 and 13) but the
sign posting system needs some improvement. To encourage an upgra-
ding of the national cycle signing system, the Network of Finnish Cycling
Friendly Municipalities decided to organise a signposting workshop. The
workshop was held at the end of April in Helsinki and was attended by
representatives of municipal authorities and road administrators. The
event was a great success and it was agreed to make the signing of the
Baltic Sea Cycle Route (EV10) a pilot project.
The Pilqrims Route (EuroVelo3)
The development of the Pilgrims Route (EV3) is also progressing well
with the international consortium meeting to present the results of their
national reports on the following date:
