General information

Context
EuroVelo is a project of the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) to develop a network
of high-quality cycling routes linking all countries In Europe. It can be used by long-
distance cycle tourists, as well as by local people making daily journeys.
National EuroVelo coordination centres
• coordinate and ensure the implementation, operation and quality assurance of
EuroVelo at national level
• ensure coordination with the ECF
• are organised in accordance with the requirements of each country, bringing
together territorial authorities, tourism organisations, cycling organisations, public
transport companies and service providers.
Objectives
• Support the management of the European cycle route network, aiming at the fur-
ther sustainable development of the European trans-national cycling routes
• Develop the best organisational structures in each country for EuroVelo coordina-
tion, and raise the national profile of EuroVelo, ensuring consistent strategies and
standards for EuroVelo and national routes.

EuroVelo communication
• Overview information in electronic (eurovelo.com) and printed (EuroVelo map)
form, including links to detailed information at local level on sections of EuroVelo
routes and national and regional routes.

Mandatory tasks
Route coordination
• Coordination of the routes, according to the EuroVelo route development manual
• Evaluation of critical sections. Planning and lobbying for necessary improvements
• Regular monitoring of route status.
Signposting coordination
• Coordination of the national standards (or lobbying for national standards, if
necessary) in order to integrate EuroVelo route information panels, according to
the EuroVelo signposting manual
• Regular monitoring of the status of the signposting system.
Communication
• Information about EuroVelo at national level
• Arrangement for detailed information on EuroVelo, within national and regional
route websites, including information on services (public transport, accomodation,
cycle rental and bookable offers)
• Nationwide integration of EuroVelo routes Into existing and new printed products
such as maps and route guides.
Reporting
• Report to ECF (annually) on each route.
• Documentation of the progress of route realisation, signposting realisation, com-
munication, network for services (optional), public transport connection (optional)
and monitoring (optional) over the years
• Dissemination of ECF EuroVelo-newsletter.

• Stimulation, coordination and communication of national networks for relevant
services (cycle friendly accomodation, cycle rental, bookable offers).
Public transport connection
• Monitoring and evaluation, according to ECF recommendations
• Definition of the necessary actions
• Lobbying.
Monitoring
• Usage analysis and user surveys, according to ECF recommendations.

• Publishing the call
• Submission of the proposal (submission form downloadable from www.ecf.com)
• Acceptance and recognition by ECF
• Agreements signed between ECF and national coordination centre

Evaluation criteria
• Achievements of the organisation in the field of route development, cycle tourism
and EuroVelo, based on a network with the relevant partners in the country
• Recognition and acceptance of the applicant by public authorities
• Organisation and partners
• National coverage
• Activity plan for the development of EuroVelo.
Agreement
The EuroVelo coordination centre and the ECF will sign an agreement describing their
respective roles in EuroVelo coordination, based on the application.
The ECF has the right to suspend or cancel the official recognition of a coordination cen-
tre, if it is not satisfied with the performance of that centre.
Language
All written material in the completed submission form should be in English.
The promotional leaflets, plans etc. as optional annexes can be in other languages.
